AlUla Artist Residency: Tracing Impermanence
Sector: Arts & Culture
Disciplines: Editorial Design
Role: Lead Graphic Designer at Flint Culture with Art Director Bayan Alsheikh
Year: 2025
Tracing Impermanence documents the 2025 AlUla Artist Residency through a bilingual publication. The editorial design was developed to support research-based artistic projects while providing equal prominence to both Arabic and English content.
The publication is organised using a restrained grid that positions the two languages alongside one another. Typography and spacing were kept deliberately simple, allowing text and imagery to coexist without hierarchy. Material choices and pacing reinforce the publication's quiet and considered character.
The layout remains consistent throughout, creating a clear reading experience while accommodating a wide range of visual material. Rather than directing attention through graphic intervention, the design allows the artists' work and their relationship to place to remain the primary focus. The publication serves both as documentation of the residency and as a lasting record of its ongoing dialogue.
